Amazigh Beauty: A Pandemic Project

In 2020, as the world slowed down, creativity found new ways to emerge. The pandemic sparked a rise in personal projects, with photographers turning their lenses inward to create art at home. I found myself deeply inspired by Moroccan photographers and their work—self-portraits, sibling collaborations, and explorations of heritage that resonated deeply with me, even from across the globe.

I wanted to capture something meaningful and rooted in tradition. The jewelry featured in this project doesn’t belong to my family but was graciously lent to me by a family friend. Each piece reflects the rich beauty of Amazigh tradition and heritage, a culture I hold close to my heart.

My little sister became my model, and together we brought this vision to life. Pinterest served as my styling guide as I dressed her in a way that honored the jewelry’s significance. This project also marked a personal milestone—I had just purchased my first Canon camera and was excited to explore its capabilities. Playing with the camera’s multiple exposure settings, I discovered new ways to bring motion and depth into my work.

This series is a testament to the power of creativity during uncertain times and a love letter to the cultural traditions that inspire me every day.
